CS Energy has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bowen Renewable Energy Hub for the pumped hydro energy storage (PHES) component of the project.
In a media release today, the Bowen Renewable Energy Hub announced the MoU with CS Energy and that the project is working with global clean energy capital fund Copenhagen Infrastructure IV on co-development and equity partnerships.
The Bowen Renewable Hub is a 1.4 gigawatt integrated renewable and energy storage project that is being developed by Bowen River Utilities and Renewable Energy Partners and will be located in the Mackay hinterland, on Widi Country.
CS Energy is considering a range of options for participating in the PHES component such as a power purchase agreement, equity funding and project operations.
Stage 1 of the PHES is expected to be online by 2028. It has been designed to deliver 750MW and 16hrs of storage (12,000MWh). Stage 2 is expected to deliver an additional 12,000MWh of storage and be online by 2033.
This project provides CS Energy with an opportunity to further diversify our portfolio so that we have a balanced mix of energy sources to support our customers’ requirements and Queensland's energy needs.
