Twelve schools and not-for-profit groups in the Banana Shire and Western Downs are sharing in more than $91,000 in funding from Round 4 of CS Energy's Community Sponsorship Program.
The sponsorships range from $1,500 to almost $16,000 and support projects that CS Energy believes will have a lasting, positive impact on the local communities that host our operations.
One of the funded projects this round is a power upgrade for the Goondir Mobile Medical Clinic that visits Chinchilla. Goondir Executive Strategy and Planning Paul Penumala said the CS Energy sponsorship will fund the purchase of a diesel generator with two long-life storage batteries for the Mobile Medical Clinic.
The mobile clinic (pictured above) visits communities such as Chinchilla and Tara each fortnight as well as various schools across the region.
‘We provide holistic primary health care services, predominantly for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and clients with special needs in the Chinchilla community,” Mr Penumala said.
“Currently the mobile clinic can only operate when electrically tethered to the local hospital. The CS Energy sponsorship will enable us to provide effective and uninterrupted clinical services to our clients, without having to rely on external sources of power.”
Another project sponsored in this round is an agricultural project teaching primary school students how to raise chickens. Students at Prospect Creek State School (pictured below) are raising chickens from incubated eggs and, in the process, learning about animal life cycles.
Teaching Principal Rosalie Reynolds said the project aimed to engage children outside of the classroom.
“Our school vision empowers us to ensure innovative learning experiences are delivered daily and the outcomes of this project are educational, social and emotional,” Ms Reynolds said.
