Sixteen community groups in the Banana Shire and Western Downs Region Council areas are sharing in approximately $113,000 in funding from the latest round of CS Energy’s Community Sponsorships Program.
CS Energy offers two sponsorship rounds per year to community groups and not-for-profit organisations located in the regions that host its operations.
In the Banana Shire, seven projects received sponsorship including the refurbishment of the Biloela Community Garden, a play equipment storage shed at Biloela State School and an office upgrade for the Banana Shire Support Centre.
Callide Power Station General Manager Ben Hayden said CS Energy looked for projects that would deliver lasting benefits to the region.
“So many of these projects involve local community groups, often run by volunteers, who are passionate about making this region a better place to work, learn and play,” Mr Hayden said. “I look forward to seeing their projects come to fruition over the coming months.”
In the Western Downs, the sponsorship will support nine projects such as upgraded boxing bag equipment at the Dalby PCYC, an instrumental program at Drillham Primary School and a shade cloth at the Chinchilla Family Support Centre.
Kogan Creek Power Station General Manager Jacques Dippenaar said the sponsorship program continued to be very popular, particularly since COVID-19.
“We recognise that the last 18 months have been challenging for community groups,” Mr Dippenaar said. “It’s great to see that the Western Downs continues to produce such a diverse range of community-led initiatives, many of which will help stimulate local economic activity.”
Sponsored projects have received financial support ranging from $1,500 to $18,000, depending on the nature of the project.
