Three apprentices and trainees working at CS Energy’s Callide Power Station were among the winners in the Gladstone Area Group Apprentices (GAGAL) annual awards for the Biloela region.
Mechanical apprentice Mace Bongers celebrated back-to-back wins in the awards, taking out the Third Year Apprentice Award after winning the Second Year Apprentice Award in 2017.
Other winners were Hayley Sauer, who won the Trainee of the Year category and Dylan Chittick, who won the Second Year Apprentice Award.
All three are hosted by CS Energy at Callide Power Station.
Callide Power Station Acting General Manager Brett Smith said CS Energy was proud to offer young people a foot in the door to the energy industry.
“Apprenticeships and traineeships offer young people the opportunity to earn and learn,” Mr Smith said.
“Congratulations to the winners, and to GAGAL for promoting vocational education and training.”
CS Energy hosted apprentices and trainees won three of the five categories at the awards, with apprentices hosted by Batchfire and Anglo American Dawson Mine winning the remaining awards.
GAGAL held the awards at their Banana Engineering Skills Training Centre in Biloela. GAGAL CEO Leigh Zimmerlie said it was wonderful to recognise the apprentices and trainees in front of their management and mentors.
“GAGAL has a long and proud history of the employment and training of apprentices and trainees throughout Central Queensland,” Ms Zimmerlie said.
