With more organisations seeking to reduce their emissions, CS Energy’s diversified energy portfolio enables our Large Commercial and Industrial Retail team to provide customers with energy solutions tailored to their needs.
Account Manager Peter Smogorzewski started with CS Energy in May 2023, attracted to the chance to be a part of the global change in the energy industry and to help empower customers through the transformation.
His role sees him designing energy solutions for customers; dealing with energy brokers, consultants, and suppliers on their behalf to negotiate pricing and terms for a contract; and then managing relationships through the life of that contract.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Most of my day is spent looking at opportunities. So, a tender will come in and I’ll first talk to the customer about their needs – for example, how much energy they want from renewables, how they want to structure their contract, what sort of flexibility they want, and what else they’re interested in, like behind the meter options (i.e., where energy is generated by the customer on their own property rather than supplied through the grid).
Then I work with our internal pricing and trading team as we negotiate and develop terms and conditions.
And there’s also day to day account management with existing customers – if something comes up, they can ask me questions and I’ll deal with things.
What is your favourite part of your job?
I like learning about a customer’s business and understanding their needs and the specifics of their operations. Different businesses have different requirements and complexities about what they can and can’t do behind the meter.
A coal mine is going to be different to an abattoir and that will be different to a government department, for example. I really enjoy that.
Also, talking to them about batteries, EV chargers, and solar, and looking at how that can be packaged up for them as part of their contract.
We create tailored solutions, so if they want solar and battery, they can be funded through their electricity contract with us – we have third party suppliers who can provide that equipment, and we can bring those different suppliers together for the customer, becoming the pivotal point including providing the financing for it through the contract; so, we can bring it all together rather than them having to deal with multiple people.
I’m basically designing and delivering energy solutions packages for customers.
What do customers want?
I’m finding customers want to go on the energy transformation journey and start moving into renewables. They want to know what that looks like, and what it means to their bottom line in terms of the costs of electricity and how thermal generation can be a part of the transition.
What they really want is balance – they want a renewable product, but they want it to be cost effective, too.
