CONNECTING JOB SEEKERS WITH THE ENERGY SECTOR
With an increasing amount of work underway as we continue to meet our purpose of delivering energy today and powering your tomorrow, CS Energy has joined other Queensland energy businesses to launch a new one-stop-shop to connect job seekers with energy sector jobs.
The Energy Jobs Portal, which can be found at qld.gov.au/energyjobs, aims to connect more workers to the diverse roles within the Queensland Government owned energy sector, including opportunities for apprentices, engineers, electrical designers, labourers, administrative workers, and more.
The portal includes jobs at Powerlink, Energy Queensland, Stanwell, CleanCo, Queensland Hydro and the Queensland Government.
It is open to both the existing and potential workforce and provides a wealth of information on available jobs, and the required skills to work in the energy sector.
Simplifying the application process, job seekers can upload their skills and experience, allowing them easier search options, and they have the ability to be ‘smart matched’ to appropriate jobs.
A growing workforce
New data has revealed that more than 2,750 new jobs have been created across Queensland’s six publicly owned energy businesses alone in less than two years.
At CS Energy, our workforce has grown from around 550 people to almost 700 across our sites over the past 12 months, and we expect further growth.
“CS Energy has an ambitious program of work underway in the year ahead as we continue to add new renewable and firming assets to our portfolio and grow our retail business,” CS Energy CEO Darren Busine said.
“At the same time, we are investing in the maintenance of our existing thermal generation assets to ensure they operate safely and reliably to support the energy transformation.
“We offer an incredible variety of positions, from skilled professional roles to technical and trade opportunities.
“We are also nurturing the future of our industry through our apprentice, trainee and graduate programs, where people in entry level roles can learn from industry experts during a time of transformation and innovation.”
A transitioning workforce
CS Energy HR Manager Laura Burge, who represented CS Energy in the creation of the portal, said it was an important tool for energy industry workers as we navigate through the industry’s transformation.
“CS Energy is a signatory to the Queensland Energy Workers’ Charter, which created a framework and sets out principles and actions to support workers through the transformation,” she said.
“We’re committed to ensuring our workers are supported, whether that’s through providing opportunities to reskill, or helping them into new roles within the industry.”
Minister for Energy and Clean Energy Jobs Mick de Brenni said that the portal is not just about opening up job opportunities; it’s about opening doors to new careers, new skills, and a new chapter in Queensland’s energy story.
“We’re ensuring the next generation inherits a robust, efficient, and environmentally responsible energy sector and we invite passionate, talented individuals to join us on this journey,” he said.
“Not only can new energy workers leverage the abundant opportunities available, our $150 million Job Security Guarantee ensures our valued workers in Queensland’s government owned coal-fired power stations and associated mines are supported through the energy transformation.”
