paige salmon, environmental and stakeholder business partner

Paige Salmon is the Environmental and Stakeholder Business Partner for Kogan Creek Power Station on the Western Downs.

What prompted you to pursue a career in environmental management?

I actually wanted to be a vet originally, but didn’t get in. So I studied Biology, and Environmental Management went hand in hand with Biology.

Turns out, as my studies and career developed, so did my passion for the environment.

Are there many women working in environmental management in Australia?

Yes actually. I’ve been very lucky to work with a number of exceptional women in the environmental field. Most of the teams I have been involved in have had more women in these roles than men. However, we often work in industries that are male dominated.

What does a typical day in the life look like for you working at Kogan Creek Power Station?

There is never a dull moment. The day starts with occasional prestart meetings, and then into the Leadership Team meeting and Notification Meeting. There is always the opportunity to assist people with their queries around environmental management, and occasionally having the chance to save a bird or two, or perhaps release a frog from the toilets or the office buildings. There are always sites to go check on, and projects to work through.
