Biloela and Chinchilla community groups share in sponsorship funding

19 Apr 2024

CS Energy has provided more than $90,000 to 12 community groups in the Banana Shire and Western Downs Regional Council areas in the latest round of its community sponsorship program.

CS Energy offers two sponsorship rounds per year to community groups and not-for-profit organisations located in the regions that host its Callide and Kogan Creek power stations.

Our sponsorships typically range from $1,000 to $20,000 and are awarded to projects that we believe will have a lasting, positive impact on the community.

Western Downs recipients

Recipients in the area near Kogan Creek Power Station are:

  • Chinchilla Golf Club Inc to upgrade their clubhouse air-conditioning
  • Columboola Environmental Education Centre for the purchase of new rainwater tanks
  • Football Chinchilla for the purchase of two aluminium goals with wheels
  • Friends of Illoura Village for the purchase of new exercise equipment
  • Chinchilla Gymnastics Club for the purchase of new gym equipment.

Peter Macbeth from the Columboola Environmental Education Centre said CS Energy’s sponsorship would help purchase new rainwater tanks so that they had adequate water for hosting school camps at their outdoor education centre.

“If we didn't have adequate water, we would be restricted to day visits, making it unfeasible for schools in the community to travel and provide students with educational opportunities in personal and social development, and environmental science,” Mr Macbeth said.

Banana Shire recipients

Recipients in the region near Callide Power Station are:

  • The Biloela Centenary Advisory Committee for the Biloela Centenary 2024 Gala Ball @Biloela100
  • Biloela State School towards the iPads 4 All program
  • Callide Dawson Machinery Preservation Club Inc. towards digitising and interpreting the past for future generations
  • Callide Valley Show to fund the Big Bang Education at the 88th Callide Valley Show
  • Dawson Valley Drovers Rugby Union Club for the purchase of a defibrillator and upgrade of first-aid kits
  • WOW Australia /Of One Mind towards the Women of the World Festival Biloela
  • Prospect Creek State School P&C to improve and reinvigorate the central meeting place at Prospect State School.

The next round of CS Energy’s Community Sponsorships Program (Round 13) will open in the second half of 2024. Not-for-profit groups are encouraged to apply, including schools or educational institutions, organisations, clubs, associations and charities.

CS Energy also encourages applications for projects that advance outcomes for Indigenous peoples and communities, and improves understanding of Indigenous culture.
